Movement is key to keeping you stronger and less anxious
Movement: The Proven Benefits of Exercise
Given the amount of stress and chaos in today’s world, everyone can benefit from a regular exercise program.
Strength training is hands down the best way to stay healthy since it helps build and maintain lean body mass. Lean body mass, a.k.a. muscle, stimulates our metabolism and is a major determiner of the number of calories our body burns per day. Strength training also improves symptoms of clinical depression and anxiety. A study done at Harvard Medical School found strength training provides an opportunity to overcome obstacles in a controlled, predictable environment, increasing mental resiliency. My clients often tell me they feel stronger mentally from regular strength workouts.
In addition to strength training, walking, running and plyometrics help round out a workout regimen that keeps us healthy and less anxious. I know I feel much more grounded after just 30 minutes of exercise.
Love: Self-Care is a Valuable Tool
Information overload is hitting us from all angles these days. We have a non-stop life of work, home and smart-phone notifications, to name a few. It’s more important than ever to take a break in order to care for yourself. Love yourself by giving your whole being a break from the crazy world we live in. For some that break is meditation. Others enjoy a massage or body work. My point is that we often feel we don’t have the luxury of taking time for ourselves. Yet, we absolutely need to do so to remain healthy and balanced. The benefits of self-care are important aspects of maintaining a sustainable, healthy lifestyle.

Not exactly the worst habit but
Nourishment: What Nutritional Habits Do You Need to Thrive?
Sometimes life and it’s ups and downs can lead to crutches or habits which may not serve us in the best way. One of the most prevalent are bad food choices.
I purposely chose the photo of sparkling water to share one of my habits. You may be thinking that sparkling water is not exactly a terrible choice. It is actually a healthy habit I have added to my lifestyle, since it has replaced diet soda.
We’ve been going through a very stressful time in our world. Perhaps you may be eating more sugar, less vegetables or drinking more alcohol.
The best approach to begin your journey to sustainable wellness is the pick one new healthy habit. Pick that healthy habit today. Another recent habit for me, is to eat a large salad that includes lots of nutrient dense varieties of greens. how this can work is simple. I have a salad a day for the first week. The next week I continue the salad habit and add another healthy habit. It’s this approach that will help us thrive with consistent and sustainable habits.
