About Christina Caffiero
My love for fitness began at a young age.
My father, a NYC firefighter, would weight train in our playroom, not too far from my Barbie Dream House. I was often asked to spot him during his bench presses. At that age, I might have weighed all of 40 lbs ... I doubt I'd have been much help had there been a problem!
In the 6th grade, I was surprised to learn I had been signed up for my elementary school's track team. Apparently, my parents felt I needed to get off the living room couch a little more often. At the first practice, I was a bit hesitant. However, in no time, I was hooked.
Unfortunately, life in middle-school wasn’t always easy for me. I was bullied for being different than most of the class. I had a speech impediment. I couldn’t really hear it, so I had a hard time understanding why I was always laughed at. It was a lateral lisp, when air is forced over the sides of the tongue for sounds like /s/, /z/, and “sh” instead of out the front. I sounded slushy. Whenever I was laughed at I would attempt to stick up for myself. The result would be being kicked or punched by the bully. I was chased home from school; running, instead of walking the 1/2 mile. My parents took me to karate school to help me fight back. Eventually a very kind teacher got me help from a speech pathologist. I left that school a year later and began a new chapter in my academic journey.
At that time, I was showing my horse in hunt seat equitation. I had track and riding to keep me active (and out of trouble). Track practice and riding lessons were a constant during my teen years.
I had my first gym membership by 18 years of age. I had an innate sense of how to train. Looking back, it was all due to playing with Barbie while Dad was pumping iron.
It was all training. Training for sports yes, but more importantly, training for life. Discipline, strategy, winning, losing-- it helped me be the fitness professional and parent I am today.
I became a certified personal trainer through National Academy of Sports Medicine in 2001. I have attended numerous workshops in flexibility, functional training, boxing, self-myofascial release, weight loss and fitness nutrition. I became a certified boxing coach in 2003, integrating the boxing techniques into my clients' workouts.
I worked at one of the top fitness facilities in NYC, Printing House Fitness and Racquet Club before relocating to Southern California in 2005. My clients were executives, moms, actors/actresses, models and weekend warriors to name a few.
I love working with my clients! I am happy whether it’s remote training (via video) or online programs. I also train local clients in their homes or local parks. It’s all good. I love what I do!
Additionally, I am employed as a trainer at a state of the art facility here in South Orange County.
And of course I have my two children, boy/girl twins. They have made me so much stronger, inspiring me to be healthy and grounded. Having two very athletic children gives me the greatest pleasure! In addition to training my clients, I get to enjoy cheering on a swimmer and a baseball player. I truly believe in physical activity for all ages.
Working in the fitness industry has been a positive influence on my family. We spend lots of time being active!
